We’re Giving Away This Stunning Fallout Limited Edition MSI Claw!
September 6, 2024 | by Smith Elsie
Hey everyone! ETA Prime is back, and this time we’re going to talk about the incredibly rare Fallout Limited Edition MSI Claw. Before we disassemble this beauty, let’s quickly clarify that MSI no longer sells this model. Giveaways are the only way to obtain one, and I will be giving this one away! I’ll explain how to enter later in this post, but rest assured that it’s really easy.
Let’s begin by opening this exquisite limited-edition item. I’ve been a Fallout fan for a very long time, therefore I can’t help but admire the effort that went into making this unique MSI Claw. It has a post-apocalyptic Fallout feel to it, from the Altech insignia to the tough bumpers and bespoke metallic green grille. The Fallout and MSI badges are shown on the rear panel, and the whole look shouts “been through the wasteland”—precisely the kind of design you’d anticipate.
What Makes This MSI Claw Special?
I assumed this was just a skin slap on the gadget when I originally heard about it, but MSI went above and above. The reason each Fallout Limited Edition Claw is so rare is because each one was individually altered. Only a few number of these devices are available in the wild because MSI originally intended to mass-produce this version.
The internals are still the same as those of the normal MSI Claw in terms of performance. It is equipped with a 1TB NVMe SSD, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and an Intel Ultra 7 155H processor. It still has the same dual-fan cooling system, front-facing stereo speakers, and a 7-inch, 120Hz IPS display. The characteristic glow that we have grown accustomed to is added by MSI’s Mystic lighting RGB around the analog sticks. Additionally, recent GPU driver upgrades brought about by MSI and Intel’s partnership have significantly increased gaming performance overall.
Performance Boosts: New Drivers, New Gains
With fresh BIOS upgrades and an over-boost function, MSI has really raised the ante, improving performance on the 135H and 155H Claw models. The improvements are astounding—Monster Hunter: World’s frame rate increased by 105%, and Cyberpunk 2077’s unplayable 29 FPS dropped to a considerably smoother 56.4 FPS following patches. With a 70% jump, Forza Horizon 5, my favorite game, is now averaging over 87 frames per second.
Gaming Showcase: Fallout 4 and Forza Horizon 5
I set Fallout 4 to run at 900p on medium settings in order to test the new BIOS. On this handheld, the game played smoother than ever thanks to FSR 3.1 and frame generation. This limited edition Claw’s Fallout experience seems like the ideal way to play the game. Similarly, even MSI’s own expectations were surpassed when Forza Horizon 5 operated at an average of 108 FPS on 900p medium settings with XCSS set to Balanced.
A Portable Powerhouse for Gaming and Work
The MSI Claw is primarily a mobile gaming device, although it may also function as a good day PC. When used in conjunction with a lightweight Bluetooth keyboard such as the ProArc, this mobile device can become an extremely productive tool. The 7-inch display and Bluetooth keyboard on the Claw make productivity surprisingly simple, whether you’re working on a project or just need to get some work done.
After utilizing the Fallout Limited Edition MSI Claw for almost seventy-five days, I must admit that MSI has truly impressed me with this product. Prior to delving further into its features, let me clarify that I will shortly be releasing a comprehensive video review, which will include a few accessories I purchased to complete the setup. Please click the “like” button and think about subscribing if that piques your interest so you don’t miss anything!
Using the MSI Claw as a Desktop PC
Although the MSI Claw is generally sold as a portable gaming device, it can function just as well as a desktop computer. I’ve experimented with this arrangement and discovered that attaching the gadget to a larger display yields the best results. If you want to significantly increase performance, you can even attach an external GPU (eGPU) to the Claw because it supports USB4.
For me, a USB Type-C display or docking station is what I like to use. I have been utilizing a JSOX USB Type-C to HDMI dock, which provides me with three USB 3.0 ports and Gigabit Ethernet as well as other ports. This eliminates any concerns I have about the Claw’s battery life by enabling me to charge it while it is docked. If you want to get the most out of the Claw, this configuration is ideal, especially in manual mode when the TDP of the Claw can increase to 40W for even more performance.
Same Chipset, Better Performance
As previously said, the MSI Claw’s Fallout Limited Edition model has the same Core Ultra 7 155H chipset as the regular model, so you won’t notice any performance differences because of this limited edition. Nonetheless, MSI and Intel have been collaborating closely to deliver regular upgrades, particularly with BIOS optimizations and Intel’s ARC GPU drivers. When compared to the Claw’s initial introduction, the performance has improved dramatically thanks to these improvements.
Thanks to these driver and BIOS updates, I can surely experience smoother gameplay and better overall performance.
A Glimpse of the Future: MSI Claw AI Plus
While I was in Germany recently, I got the chance to play with the new MSI Claw AI Plus. This updated Claw model has an 80Wh battery, Hall-based analog sticks and triggers, and a much larger display. Intel’s new second-generation Core Ultra CPU—likely the Ultra 7 or Ultra 9—powered the device I evaluated. With its eight XC2 cores, this new chip appears to have very promising performance thus far. For those who want a little bit more power from their handheld, it’s a great upgrade because it comes with a 120Hz variable refresh rate (VRR) display.
The MSI Claw AI Plus is still a while off from release, but in my early tests, I was really delighted with how well it performed across a range of games. It’s obvious that MSI is extending the capabilities of its handhelds, and I’m interested to see where they take this next-generation gadget.
