Watch Us Build an AMD Ryzen 9700X Gaming Beast in a Stunning Case!

Hey everyone, ETA Prime here, back with something I had been very thrilled about! This gaming PC, which we’re building with a Ryzen 9700X CPU, is unique for a few reasons. Now that AMD’s Zen 5 desktop CPUs are available, which we have been eagerly awaiting, it’s time to get our hands dirty with a new build. In order to add even more intrigue, we’re assembling the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X in a distinctive case that sets it apart from the competition.
A Beastly CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
At the center of this configuration is AMD’s most recent Ryzen 7 9700X processor, which features 16 threads and 8 cores thanks to the new Zen 5 architecture. Similar to every significant CPU release from AMD, the performance increases and architectural enhancements are the subject of much anticipation. The Ryzen 9000 series offers superior multitasking, increased gaming performance, and reduced power consumption, which makes the 9700X an excellent option for a high-end gaming setup.
The Hardware Breakdown
Let’s dive into the rest of the components for this build:
- Motherboard: The MSI B650 WiFi is a Mini ITX board that we are using. This motherboard is a complete workhorse with the Ryzen 7000 series and offers everything we need, including WiFi, despite its compact form factor. It just needs a BIOS update to be prepared for Zen 5.
- Storage: A 1TB Kingston Renegade Fury M.2 SSD is our choice for incredibly quick load times. This SSD is ideal for contemporary games that require a lot of speed and space.
- RAM: Kingston Fury DDR5 32GB RAM with an 8000 MHz clock speed is what we’ve chosen. The Ryzen 9700X and this fast memory should work well together. Although we haven’t tried this particular setup yet, our past Ryzen builds have given us confidence that we can reach 8000 MHz.
The Showstopper: InWin Pac One Case
Let’s now discuss the case. The InWin Pac One, which we are creating inside, is not like any case I have ever dealt with. Because of its flat-pack architecture, you must build the casing before adding the components, which is an unusual feature.
- Materials & Design: Steel, acrylic, and aluminum are used to make the Pac One. It feels more expensive because we chose the silver version, which has a sleek, simple style. The distinct GPU compartment of the case, which improves airflow and permits better heat management, is its most notable feature.
- Modularity: It’s a nice touch that the Pac One allows for two distinct build orientations, either horizontal or vertical. If you want to switch things up or are limited on room, this flexibility is ideal.
- Cooling Support: When using an SFX power supply, the case can accommodate an AIO cooler up to 240mm in size. You’ll have to use an air cooler if you choose an ATX power supply. After careful consideration, we chose a 240mm AIO liquid cooler to maintain the Ryzen 9700X’s cooling throughout demanding gaming sessions.
GPU & Cooling
Our initial goal was to use the AMD Radeon 7900 XTX as the GPU, maintaining an all-AMD configuration. But the ASRock Taichi 7900 XTX that we had in mind was just too large to fit inside the GPU compartment of the case. Rather, we have chosen the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super, which is a perfect fit. The distinct compartment of the Pac One guarantees optimal airflow around the GPU, and the riser connection that is included makes installation simple.
Power Supply
We originally intended to use the InWin P650 power supply, however we had to use a smaller Cooler Master V850 SFX PSU due to case size restrictions. This modification helped maintain the clean appearance of the build and allowed us to utilize the 240mm AIO cooler that we desired. The Pac One’s design leaves little room for hiding wires, but the Cooler Master PSU’s shorter cords really helped with cable management.
Specs and Components
Here’s a quick breakdown of the components we used for this build:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X (Zen 5, 8 cores, 16 threads)
- Motherboard: MSI B650 WiFi Mini-ITX
- Storage: 1TB Kingston Renegade Fury M.2 SSD
- RAM: 32GB Kingston Fury DDR5 at 7600 MHz
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super (Zotac)
- Power Supply: Cooler Master V850
- Cooling: Thermalright Frozen Prism 240mm AIO
At the core of this configuration is the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X. It is an incredible machine for productivity work and gaming thanks to its 8 cores and 16 threads. I chose the Thermalright Frozen Prism 240mm AIO for cooling, and it performs a great job of controlling the temperature even when there is a lot of load on it.
Performance Benchmarks
It’s time to test this beast now that we have everything put together. I started by using a number of CPU benchmarks to see how well the Ryzen 9700X worked.
- Geekbench 6: An extraordinarily good single-core score of 3311 and a multi-core score of 17,897 for an eight-core processor.
- Cinebench R24: The single-core score of 131 and the multi-core score of 1299 are sufficient to surpass Apple’s M1 Ultra.
Moving over to some 3DMark benchmarks:
- Steel Nomad: 5,819
- Fire Strike: 45,49
- Time Spy: 22,800
The Ryzen 7 9700X truly shines with these numbers, offering a significant performance boost over the Zen 4-based 7700X.
Real-World Gaming Performance
Let’s see how this setup performs with some AAA games instead of endless artificial benchmarks!
- Cyberpunk 2077 (1440p, Ultra Settings, No DLSS): Even without DLSS, this game plays incredibly smoothly, with an average frame rate of about 143. It performs even better when Nvidia Frame Generation is enabled, making it extremely playable at maximum settings.
- Extreme Settings, 1440p, Forza Horizon 5: With an average frame rate of 182 FPS, this build might potentially support 4K if you really wanted to push it. A wonderful combination is the Ryzen 9700X with RTX 4070 Ti Super.
- Miles Morales in Spider-Man (1440p, Extremely High Settings): There isn’t any Frame Gen or DLSS present, yet the gameplay is still fluid and the FPS is constantly high. It’s evident that this PC can easily handle the most graphically demanding games.
- Starfield (1440p, Ultra, DLSS Balanced, Frame Gen On): This game is performing exceptionally well at higher resolutions thanks to recent optimizations.
- Elden Ring (1440p, Max Settings): The RTX 4070 Ti Super is capable of handling 4K if necessary, even though it is locked at 60 frames per second.
- With an average of 168 frames per second without DLSS, Horizon Forbidden West (1440p, Very High Settings) demonstrates that this build is capable of handling even the most graphically demanding games.
Thermals and Power Consumption
I wanted to check more closely at the temps and power consumption after doing all those tests.
- CPU Temperature: 56°C on average, reaching a maximum of 88°C in the Cinebench R24 multi-core test. Great job keeping things cool, 240mm AIO.
- TDP: At full load, the Ryzen 7 9700X reached a maximum of 159 watts, averaging about 67 watts.
- GPU temperature: In periods of heavy gaming, the RTX 4070 Ti Super reached a maximum temperature of 75°C, but it remained at an average of 46°C.
None of the gear experienced thermal throttling even though it was housed in a small enclosure, demonstrating the InWin P1’s ability to effectively regulate heat even in confined spaces.
Final Thoughts
This build is a real gaming powerhouse all around. When combined with the RTX 4070 Ti Super, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X delivers excellent performance for both gaming and work. Additionally, the InWin P1 case stands out in any setting thanks to its sleek, contemporary design.
