Velztorm Praetix Review: 14900K + RTX 4090, 4K Ultra Gaming Beast!
September 12, 2024 | by Smith Elsie
The Velztorm Praetix is a powerful custom gaming PC that comes with some of the newest technology on the market. Having evaluated a number of pre-built gaming PCs, I can state with certainty that this is one of the most powerful systems I have ever examined. With the Intel i9-14900K and NVIDIA’s RTX 4090, Velztorm has created a beast that can achieve unprecedented levels of performance for 4K gaming.
Hardware Overview
A 24-Core Beast: Intel i9-14900K
With 24 cores and a maximum frequency of 6GHz, the Intel Core i9-14900K is the central processing unit of the Velztorm Praetix. For gamers, video creators, and broadcasters alike, this powerful CPU easily manages demanding gaming workloads and heavy multitasking. No matter how demanding the duties are, the system guarantees lightning-fast response times thanks to its 32GB DDR5 RAM, which is clocked at 5200MHz.
GPU Powerhouse: NVIDIA RTX 4090
But the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, with its 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM, is the real star of the show. This GPU is revolutionary; it can run the most demanding AAA games at 4K resolution on the highest settings. When combined with NVIDIA’s state-of-the-art technologies, such Frame Generation and DLSS 3.0, the RTX 4090 achieves frame rates that beyond expectations. The performance at genuine 4K is astounding even without DLSS.
Premium Build Quality
The HYTE Y60 case, a stylish and contemporary chassis with superior airflow, houses the Velztorm Praetix. Additionally, Velztorm did an excellent job of managing the cables, guaranteeing a tidy and orderly interior. A Corsair H150 Elite XT 360mm AIO liquid cooler manages cooling, regulating the i9-14900K’s temperatures even during the most demanding gaming sessions. You can adjust the RGB lighting and cooling settings with Corsair’s iCUE software, which comes with balanced, silent, and extreme cooling modes.

CPU Performance
Impressive results are obtained by the i9-14900K in CPU-intensive benchmarks. It outperformed several processors from earlier generations with a scorching 3,000 single-core score and an amazing 22,356 multi-core score on Geekbench 6. With a multi-core score of 37,878, Cinebench R23 demonstrated a significant improvement in performance over previous CPUs.
Performance and Benchmarks
This PC performs amazingly well in tests conducted in real life, not just on paper thanks to its amazing specs. With Geekbench 6, the CPU broke my prior records with a single-core score of 3,378 and a multi-core score of 22,356. It also fared better than most other systems in Cinebench R23, with a multi-core score of 37,878.
Using 3DMark’s Steel Nomad GPU test, the machine achieved an astounding 9,093 points, while in Fire Strike, it achieved 48,654 points. Time Spy scored 32,670, which was equally outstanding. This rig is a strong candidate for anyone looking for exceptional gaming and content creation performance, as demonstrated by these artificial benchmarks.
4K Gaming Experience
Let’s move on to the actual challenge: 4K gaming. With Horizon Forbidden West running at 4K resolution and maximum settings, the visual fidelity is astounding. Despite YouTube’s compression, the game appears amazingly sharp on a 4K display, demonstrating how well this machine displays images. Without DLSS, the game operated at about 92 frames per second on average.
Red Dead Redemption 2 demonstrated the capability of this PC even more. The game ran at 129 frames per second on average even with all the settings maxed out and the slider pushed to the maximum without any resolution scaling. Impressive were the seamless performance and extremely excellent detail at 4K.
I tested Starfield at 4K Ultra settings, and in open spaces I averaged about 94 FPS, whereas in the cities I averaged 76 FPS. After patches, the Praetix handled the game’s performance problems—which were infamous at launch—well, even in the resource-intensive cityscapes.
The last game I tested was Cyberpunk 2077, which I ran at 4K with Ray Tracing Ultra enabled and DLSS set to Auto. Ray tracing requires a lot of resources, yet the RTX 4090 kept up with ease, consistently providing over 90 frames per second. The graphics of the game were amazing, with shimmering reflections and intricate shadows, yet this system could easily run the game at its highest settings even without DLSS or ray tracing.
Thermals and Power Draw
Power comes with heat creation, yet the Velztorm Praetix manages to stay cool quite well. While gaming, the GPU averaged about 64°C and the CPU averaged 61°C, both well within acceptable limits and showing no symptoms of thermal throttling.
This is not a low-energy system in terms of power usage. During 4K gaming, the system typically drew 473W from the wall. Among the most power-hungry configurations I’ve tested, the GPU alone reached a peak consumption of around 400W when operating at full load. Make sure your power configuration is capable of supporting this system if you intend to use it.
Final Thoughts
All things considered, the Velztorm Praetix excels in all areas: cooling, customization, performance, and build quality. Top-tier parts and a well-tuned system provide future-proof gaming at the highest settings. The build’s meticulous attention to detail is visible in everything from the lighting arrangement to the airflow design, including the flawless wire management.
The Y60 case’s customizable LCD panel, which shows pictures, videos, or system statistics, is one neat feature. This function is a nice addition for those who want more personalization, but if you’re trying to save money up front, you can add it later.
In conclusion, the Velztorm Praetix ought to be at the top of your list if you’re searching for the best pre-built gaming PC that can easily handle 4K Ultra gaming. It is a beast that can run even the most demanding games with breathtaking visual fidelity, and its parts guarantee that it will continue to lead the performance category for many years to come.
